In other news, I am in the process of setting up a WordPress.org website and plan on importing the content from here to there. Now this is not an overnight process and I am attempting to import my wordpress subscribers there too, but feel free to go and check it out and subscribe via email. I plan to keep the name Cover2Cover and unfortunately I can’t import this theme (pfff), and don’t have the money as yet to buy a really cool theme, so I’m limited in terms of the look but it is a work in progress.

Once my content has been imported I will be sure to make a post here to inform you guys. So please check out My WEBSITE and subscribe. Thanks for your support!

Book Blitz: Thirst : Blood Of My Blood by R P Channing

Thirst by R P Channing Banner

Book Title - Thirst Blood of my Blood

Author: R P Channing
Genres: Young Adult Romance / Paranormal Romance /High School / Vampires / Demons /Witches / Dark Fantasy / Horror

Thirst by R P Channing Cover

~ Kira Sutherland ~

After a near fatal accident (and getting cheated on by her ‘boyfriend’), and beating up the lead cheerleader (with whom the boyfriend cheated…), and being labeled as having ‘issues’ in her school because she, uhm, sees ghosts, Kira is left with two choices:

1. Continue her ‘therapy’ (where she’s told the ghost is a hallucination and also gets her legs ogled too often…)

Or

2. Go to Starkfield Academy, a boarding school for “Crazies and Convicts” (as the social media sites call them.)

She chooses the latter…

~ Cory Rand ~

Cory Rand has not had an easy life. His mother died in a car accident when he was twelve, and so did his mother’s best friend…sort of. You see, Janice made a promise to take care of Cory just before she died, and so she lingers. Undead. A ghost that watches out for him.

Brought up in an abusive home, Cory quickly falls into a life of disreputable behavior. After his third offense (which was prompted by a girl, as usual – he has a weakness) he’s left with two choices:

1. Be tried as an adult and share a cell with a guy named Bubba (he thinks…)

Or

2. Go to Starkfield Academy, which Cory is pretty sure is run by vampires. But, hey, at least he’ll get an education.

He chooses the latter…

It’s at Starkfield that Kira meets Cory Rand, a boy with an insatiable Rage who sees ghosts, too. As well as other things, other things from his past, things that confuse him, things like fire and witches and demons.

Things he’s always ignored.

Until now.

PROLOGUE
-1-
The Puppy Eyes
My life was perfect.
I had the perfect shoes and the perfect friends and I lived in the perfect house. My nails were perfect and my hair was perfect (except on Sundays, it was always windy on Sundays) and I had the perfect clothes. My lips were a perfect red and my hair perfectly straight. My eyeshadow was perfect, my hips were…okay, and my waist…well…also okay. Nothing was wrong in my life.
But then there was Jack.
Jack was a problem.
He needed to go. I mean, when you’re dead, you’re dead! I had told him this endlessly. Somehow, Jack didn’t get it. I mean, I felt sorry for the guy. Sure. Being stuck between this life and the next. But just because I found him, does that mean I needed to keep him?
I think not!
Sadly, when Jack got that look in his eyes, that weary, almost teary (if his tear-ducts worked) look, I melted. I just couldn’t send him away. Not even Jack knew where he would go after he died.
Would he, like, die? As in — dead, nada, kaput, finito, gone, no more? Bye bye, sayonara, ciao, hasta la vista baby and all that?
I couldn’t have that on my conscience. No way.
I lay on my bed, wondering what to do about him. “Jaaaaaaack,” I hollered.
“Jaaaaaaack!”
Still no answer.
“Jack!”
Jack…materialized.
His eyes rolled down to the ground. He was making those puppy eyes again. “Jack, I told you not to do that. I told you not to play on my sympathies.”
His puppy eyes became worse.
His skin was gray and, well, dead.
“Oh, brother,” I said. “I have to do something about you. If mom finds out I have another ‘imaginary friend’ — at my age — well, I’d die of embarrassment. But, like, really die. Not like you.” I wondered about this. Would I die? Was Jack a freak accident, or did all people live on like him? Think of the cemeteries…
The idea excited me somewhat.
“What would you have me do, Miss Kira?”
“Knock off the Miss Kira crap. I told you it’s just Kira.”
“Yes, Miss Kira.”
The dead. There’s just no reasoning.
“Fine, Miss Kira it is then.” Rover barked like a lunatic in the garden. No one else might be able to see Jack, but I was sure my dog could.
“I have to do something about this,” I mumbled

Author Bio
R P Channing started writing three years ago, but never published anything even after churning out over a million words of fiction. Thirst: Blood of my Blood is the first book he dared to publish. When asked why, he said, “Because it’s the first thing I wrote that my wife actually enjoyed reading.” When not hammering away (most literally) at his keyboard, he can be found buried in a book, reading anything from romance to horror to young adult to non-fiction to comedy.

Top Ten Things You Should Know About Starkfield Academy

Starkfield Academy is Cory Rand’s last chance at freedom. He’s left with no choice but to take the opportunity.
Kira Sutherland is in a similar boat.
But Starkfield is filled with things you would not wish on your worst enemy…

1. It’s run by vampires…maybe
Well, it’s not so clear if it is. But Alexander smiles at Cory with sharp white teeth and gleaming skin when he first approaches Cory in his holding cell about studying there.
So, is it?

2. All The Kids are either Crazies or Convicts
Yup, you either need to have been labeled with some mental disorder or have convicted a crime to study there.

3. The Kids Are Rich
You know rich kids can be worse than vampires.

4. Then, of course, there are the breathing walls…
When Kira finds herself alone in the courtyard of the girls’ dorms…she feels the walls pulsing…and breathing.
I mean…run.

5. But not all kids are bad
Kira finds some great friends in Starkfield, people like her. As she gets to know them more closely, she realizes they might have been together before…

6. The Dean is Missing
And in his place we find Ms. Drake, a voluptuous woman who wears pencil skirts and has bright red lips…which Kira sees blood on when she first approaches her. Or did she imagine it?

7. Then there’s the romance…
If Kira had never gone to Starkfield, she would have never met Cory, the boy with an insatiable Rage inside him which he needs her help to understand.
She’s known her new friends before. Has she known him?

8. It’s HUGE
Starkfield is in an enclosed area that allows no one in or out, surrounded by woods and then walls outside those woods. Can anyone say creepy?

9. No phones, no internet
Again…run.

10. The Mist
The scariest thing about Starkfield is The Mist. I won’t tell you anything about it. Because you might lose your memory.

EXCERPT

She stood up, carrying with her this vision of a place she was seeing in her mind. It was a beautiful room, wide and spacious with a breeze of roses entering through a clear window. A hand carved wooden desk sat under the window and on top of the desk was a pile of fresh parchment and a big clear jar of dark purple ink. A pen with a blue feather sat on top the paper.

That was all. All she needed now. In this moment, a desire so strong rose up in her and lifted her spirit. She desired this place, this ink, and that’s all. Her body was done. It had exhausted itself, a physical exhaustion beyond anything she had felt, like she had run hundreds of days without stopping. She rested her head against the tree. The bugs spread apart and stopped crawling as they felt in her breath, the kind of truth that is undeniable. The truth of her exhaustion. She told them all, “If only I could have, a quiet place all my own where I can write by the sunshine, the smell of the sea in the wind that comes to me.”

The bones were breaking under her feet, the bones in her hands, crushing as she pushed again. Nothing left. No human strength in her.

But the tree. The tree had strength to feel her. It knew her hands, her breath, it had taken her stories, her secrets, her prayers. It always heard her. It shaded her from her shady world. It danced its branches around her and swung with her when she swung from the swing that was no more. It knew her roots. It couldn’t hold onto itself like she couldn’t. It wanted to speak back to her and this would be its way…

Book Blitz: Bleizgeist by Hazel Butler

Bleizgeist
Hazel Butler

Genres: Dark Fantasy, New Adult

Ingary is a harsh land. Cursed by a perpetual winter, the isolated little town has all but forget why they worship the wolf.

Marked by magic she cannot control, Marishka is an outcast. Alone and starving she is plagued by geiste, the unconscious minds of the people of Ingary, roaming the wilderness as they sleep. But when her affair is discovered, all hope is taken from her.

Beaten and lovelorn, she resigns herself to death.

And then the wolf walks through her door, and Marishka recalls the meaning of Bleizgeist—the spirit of the wolf.

Goodreads / Amazon US / Amazon UK / Paperback

EXCERPT:

Eventually, I thought, death will come for me.

It was a comforting notion, and I gloried in it during those brief moments when I was not overcome by regret, and memory, and grief.

By paralysing loneliness.

Before long, the smokey spectre appeared, as I knew it would, the barest whisper of a shadow, inky and incandescent. It darted forwards, then back, closer, then ppfft, it was gone in an instant, only to return, darker and more substantial. As ever, it grew bolder, and bolder, until finally it dared to drift through the window and into my home.

Every night I had lain here, the geist had come.

It had not taken me long to realise who it was, dogging my steps every eve.

I could have kept it out. Barred the door, the window, barricaded myself in, but I had learned long ago that the more I tried to shut the geiste out, the more persistent they would become.

This one was already persistent enough.

In the darkest watches of that night I lay cradling my aching head in my arms, rocking slightly in my bed, already desperate for morning. It was then the wolf came to me.

A shadow, nothing more, passing before the window. At first I thought that, in my anguish, I had drawn more of the geiste to myself. I had often done so as a child, before I learned some measure of control over my emotions. From my low vantage I could see little of the outside world but the sky, yet I saw the shadow, looming large against the scattering of trees beyond the window.

Then I heard the scratch of claws. Sharp, echoing, as they made their way to the door. Such a peculiar, human-like habit, to enter through the doorway, rather than leaping over the bare sill. There was no time to ponder the oddity. After a slight scuffling, the door swung inward. Despite my sudden indifference to life I shrank back against the wall, fearful of what came my way. Yet when the wolf entered, nosing its way inside, I found myself drawn forwards again, moving to sit upright for the first time in days. My bruised and battered body, still as naked as it had been when we were found, screamed in protest. Flimsy furs that had been covering me slipped away, exposing me to the night.

The wolf turned to regard me, and a single look into its eyes told me all I needed to know.

This was no mere wolf.

“You.”

Blog Tour: Cursed: Black Swan by Ryan T. McFadden

Hello readers

Welcome to the Cursed: Black Swan Blog Tour. Read on for my review and don’t forget to enter the Giveaway!

Cursed Black Swancursed
A Fixer Novel
By- Ryan T. McFadden
Genre- Fantasy/Dark Fantasy
Published By- Dragon Moon Press
Publication Date-October 30th

“Let’s get one thing straight—I’m a fixer. You need someone murdered? Then hire an assassin. You need something stolen? Call a thief. But if there’s something no one else can do, or a job that no one else wants, then you talk to me.”

Nathaniel specializes in the strange, the weird, and the dangerous. But no matter how far he runs, he can’t leave behind his bloody past, nor the ghosts that chase him.

His latest job was supposed to be simple—recover the sword Black Swan. Except there’s no such thing as a simple job. When the operation goes bad, the Crucifiers, the Crooked Hand, assassins, and Crusaders are all hot on Nathaniel’s trail…for a sword he doesn’t even have. All he has to do to get it back and set his world right is to find the woman of his dreams…and kill her.

My Review

This book was a helluva lotta fun. It was over the top and bloody with just the right amount of humour, just the way I hoped it would be.

The main character Nathaniel is a fixer, he makes problems go away, often violently. Somehow, his plans often go awry and he ends up imprisoned, beaten up and more than likely having to kill a lot of people to get out of whatever mess he had created. He is at odds with most, if not all, of the crime syndicates , so when a job goes south and he is given a chance to get good with one of them, he has no choice but to accept what seems like an easy steal! But it’s not as simple as it seems because the sword he is meant to steal is coveted by, well, everyone who is anyone in the crime business.

His failed attempt to steal the sword sets off a chain of events that will have his head spinning trying to keep up with all who are out to kill him, and this for a sword that he doesn’t even have. As if that’s not bad enough, he has to struggle with keeping ‘the dark’ caged , whose thirst for blood and death is unquenchable.

Nathaniel is a bad guy and he does not care about pretending to be otherwise. I like his dry humour and his all round badassry. The author takes the time to detail his transformation and that really helps to shed light on ‘the dark’ as well as Nathaniel’s personality.

I am not so satisfied with the explanation of how ‘the dark’ came to be part of Nathaniel though and that’s my only qualm with this story.

Cursed: Black Swan is fast paced and action packed with enough blood and gore to satisfy any lover of dark fantasy. Fraught with mystery  danger, and schemes aplenty, it is a satisfying , dark, often humourous read and not for the faint-hearted! I highly recommend it.

My Rating

4 hearts

Recommendation

If you like your fantasy dark and action-packed with an anti-hero who is ruthless, you will love this!!

Grand Finale: Craving Beauty by Jennifer Silverwood

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

It’s the Grand Finale for
Craving Beauty
By Jennifer Silverwood

Did you come along with us as the classic fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast is retold in a Gothic setting where nothing is exactly as it seems and the heroine must be her own hero? If not, go back and check out each stop…

Launch – Author Interview

What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

Sometimes there is no knight in shining armor coming to rescue the damsel. Sometimes the damsel has to be the hero. I hope readers will find their courage, along with our heroine, Vynasha, to realize they too are beautiful beyond their inner and outer scars.

“Whatever you think you know, forget it, you are probably wrong. As I said earlier, there is so much going on within the pages of this book you won’t know what to expect but that is what makes this book so utterly amazing. It was so different. It took a classic fairy tale one that I absolutely adore and made it something more. It made it something new.”

Mythical Books – The Characters & an Introduction to Craving Beauty

Craving Beauty is yet another adaptation of the beloved fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, with a darker twist. Elements of Gothic romance and high fantasy flesh out this retelling. I have always wanted to read a high fantasy retelling of my favorite fairy tale, so I decided to write one. . . .My story is different from other retelling’s because it focuses less on the romance and more on the journey of Vynasha.

deal sharing aunt – Author Interview

6. What would you like my readers to know?

Craving Beauty, Vol. 1 is a gothic romance as well as a high fantasy retelling of Beauty & the Beast. While it is a clean YA Fantasy, be prepared for a lot of mayhem and magic. And don’t be too surprised by the blood and beasts, or cloak and dagger. In the end, Craving Beauty is about finding courage and your own inner beauty despite all obstacles. Hope you will join me in Vynasha’s journey!

“Author Jennifer Silverwood will blow you away with her latest release, Craving Beauty. In this rendition of Beauty and the Beast, Jennifer has created a twist on the story that readers will fall in love with from page one. Although a little darker than I originally thought it would be, this novel is filled with a delightful story and excellently developed characters.”

“If you are a fan of Beauty and the Beast type of story you will love this. It is a story of a girl with a tragic life who finds herself in a castle filled with Beasts and other enchanted characters.”

Cover2Cover – Review

“This is a story of love and loss, sacrifice and finding the strength within oneself to beat the odds.”

Colorimetry – Interview with Vynasha

The following interview was the last time anyone from the village of Whistleande had contact with her before Vynasha and her nephew, Wyll disappeared this winter. They are currently presumed dead by the local magistrate. One can only ponder what would drive these poor souls into a forest populated with danger and shrouded in myth.

Wishful Endings – Excerpt

The creature’s heavy limbs pounded upon the floor with every scrape of its claws. Roars echoed her flight over the crimson carpet. The hall was black as pitch without the light of the fire and candles. It wasn’t long before she felt the creature’s hot breath above her neck. Her heart pounded as she pushed harder and barely missed colliding with a column. She pivoted to avoid one agony, only to feel the rip of claws sinking around her waist.

Then she knew no more.

Bookworm Lisa – Not Your Average Beauty

As I mentioned before, Vynasha is not your average “Beauty”. She was beautiful once, but now is covered in scars. She has little interest in romance or personal goals but doesn’t consider herself to be selfless. From an early age, like so many women today, she learned to get by on her own. Sometimes the prince doesn’t come in time and the damsel has to rescue them both. In “Craving Beauty”, Vynasha will discover that her inner beauty, like her bravery comes in many shapes and sizes.

Writing Pearls – Promo

Zerina Blossom’s Books – What I Learned From Craving Beauty

Of all the projects I’ve worked on since I started writing professionally, Vynasha’s story has stuck with me the longest. It has been drafted and re-drafted, revised and edited and revised again. At times I wanted to throw in the towel and give up because I thought I would never see the day it would publish. Some authors in that position might have set it aside for a later date, or put it away for good to collect dust. And I might have done exactly that except for one thing, I love the story. I love gothic romances and fairy tale retellings, and “Craving Beauty” is somewhat of a conglomerate of the two. It has elements of horror and high fantasy with the necessary Byronic hero and a heroine who isn’t your average “Beauty.”

Teatime and Books – Promo

J. L. Mbewe – Interview

What are you working on now? What’s next for you?

As you might have guessed, I’m already hard at work on the sequel to Craving Beauty, as well as polishing up the companion novella, Wolfsbane’s Daughter. I’m also working on a contemporary adult romance novel called “Moonlight.” I hope to publish all three this next year, so be on the lookout for news from my website!

Reader Girls – Excerpt

The beast growled as it dragged her back into the shelter of the room. She felt a powerful arm, muscle and sinew straining against her body as it tucked her against its brown mane. She was too dazed to do anything but cling to the creature in turn as it barreled through the castle. Slowly, her muscles relaxed enough for her to almost enjoy that wild rocking sensation and the thump of the beast’s heartbeat.

alwaysjoart – Wylder Tales

Craving Beauty is the first book in a three part series. The next, Wolfsbane’s Daughter is a companion novella and in-between for volumes one and two. It follows the journey of a few side characters you’ll meet in volume one. We will get an up close and personal glimpse of Wolfsbane’s mute daughter, Resha as she looks after Wyll. Wolfsbane and Resha both have major parts to play before the story plays out in volume two. I had a lot of fun diving into a different perspective, since the other two books are told from Vynasha’s point of view. Also, because Resha was born and raised in the forbidding Wylder Mountains, she gives us a closer look at the new world Vynasha and Wyll have traveled to.

Craving Beauty
(A Wylder Tale, #1)
by Jennifer Silverwood
YA Dark Fantasy
Paperback & ebook, 239 pages
October 31st 2015

Vynasha has spent the last four years tending her mother’s roses and looking after her nephew. The fire that killed their family has left her scarred and put Wyll on the brink of death. Soon the first frost will come down from the mountains and she knows this winter will be his last.

Until a strange beggar appears on the road, telling her of the majikal Source that can heal her Wyll. With nothing left to lose, Vynasha braves the forbidden Wylder Mountains to seek out a cure and her fate.

A lost kingdom is uncovered by an equally lost girl, but the castle is not abandoned as she believes. Shadows cloaking unseen eyes watch. Tapestries whisper from the hidden corners, wondering if the one to break their curse has come. And a hungry beast waits, ready to devour her soul.

My Review

This Beauty and The Beast retelling is worth the read. I liked the main character Vyanasha. She has suffered tragedy that left her scarred and her cousin Wyll one step away from death with each passing day, yet she is still full of hope and has emerged from it a stronger, more determined person.
Desperate to stave off looming death, she sets off on a quest to find a cure on the word of a ‘beggar’…desperate times call for desperate meaures! The quest will lead her into the domain of the Prince aka the Beast and she will have to utilise her wits to get her out of this precarious situation so she could fulfill her quest.

Her strength, courage, resolve and her very sanity would be tested and she would need to draw on all the skills in her arsenal and then some. This is a story of love and loss, sacrifice and finding the strength within oneself to beat the odds.

Title: The Crumbling Pageant (Volume One of the Fury Triad Series)

Author: Patricia Burroughs

Publisher: Story Spring Publishing

Pages: 607

Genre: Dark Young Adult FantasyThis Crumbling Pageant

Synopsis:

The people of Ordinary England are unaware of a hidden magical England existing alongside–the world of the Magi. Their cathedrals are temples to the old gods. They are ruled not by poor mad George, but by the ailing King Pellinore of the House of Pendragon. The wars of the Magi, however, are no less deadly.

The Furys are known for their extraordinary music, their powerful magic, and their historic role as kingmakers. But the Furys have their secrets as well, none so dangerous as the Dark daughter whose Shadow magic spills from her unchecked. Unless Persephone Fury’s powers are concealed, she’s marked as a target for those who would use and abuse her power.

But these are desperate times, and this frightening daughter must make a good marriage. On the night of her debut, her world crumbles around her when she is abducted from the man she loves by the man she most loathes.

Evil powers circle, calling her to the destiny foretold at the moment of her birth, drawing her to the source of her power, to the one place she can finally be free. That can only happen, though, if she embraces the Dark magic within her.

Persephone is ruthless, devious, and clever, but when confronted with the truth, she must make horrifying choices. Can she defy destiny and seize her own fate?

Book Excerpt:

Inside this rustic cottage she heard nothing but—

Her heart stopped.

She was not alone.

Whoever was with her was as still and watchful as she. Her fingers longed to flex in defence, but she kept them still. Was it someone she could overcome? With her magic tingling in her veins and her rage at what had been perpetrated upon her, she knew she could. She could overcome anyone who dared stand in her way.

She allowed her eyes to open completely and, after a moment, saw beyond the feeble light from the small window and into the gloom of the dark corner. Another blink, and shape emerged. Long legs stretched forward. Elbows were planted on the arms of a chair. Long, pale fingers steepled and glittering black eyes stared over them at her. A predator, watching. Waiting.

She shot up, the pain in her right shoulder tearing through her. “How dare you!”

His wand flicked out, aimed at her heart, though beyond the movement of that one agile hand, the rest of his body remained as still and dangerously relaxed as before. “Quite easily,” he purred.

Her purple gown, once a source of horror and then of wondrous pride, now was ripped open with a bandage and too much skin showing beneath it. She covered herself with both hands, enraged. “What sort of blackguard watches a young lady sleep?” she demanded, her heart pounding. “And… and…” She found herself unable to voice her shock and alarm at being faced with a wand again, much less the sort of man who would possess one.

A shudder of revulsion rippled through her.

“I’ve not been watching you sleep. I’ve been watching you awaken.” The wand twitched. “Consider carefully any move you make, because if I even suspect that you are about to attack me again, you will be chastened. Again.”

Chastened? Was that what he called it?

His voice was silky and menacing in the gloom. “Unless you’d like a wound in your left shoulder to match that on your right?”

She drew back in fear, despite herself.

“Ah, so we have an understanding.”

He twirled his wand through his slender, nimble fingers and then back into his palm again.

About the Author

Patricia Burroughs

Patricia Burroughs had insomnia throughout her entire teen years. This meant she read books in the middle of the night, and slept during class in the middle of the day. Unless, of course, she was hiding a novel inside a physics textbook. Who needed physics? She believed in magic. Eventually she turned her propensity for daydreaming and scheming into storytelling, which manifested in award-winning screenplays and books. She still can’t sleep at night, but now it’s her own characters keeping her awake.
